What a celebration of the very first distinguished alumnus Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who received Danida Alumni Prize 2017 on 31 August during Danida Fellowship Centre’s 25 years anniversary in Frederiksberg

We are proud to announce that we on 31st August will award Danida Alumni Prize 2017. The prize is awarded annually to an alum who has made significant contributions to positive change in his or her home country or professional field based on his or her studies in Denmark.This year the prize goes to Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. 

Danida Alumni Network-Ghana, together with its stakeholders join Danida Fellowship Centre in an Anniversary reception August 31st in three zones (Accra, Kumasi and Tamale) in Ghana. Find the full programme here.

Congratulations to our three BSU Masters from Ghana, who were chosen among several thousands of applicants to participate in UNLEASH in August in Copenhagen. The three participants selected are: Mr Eugene Dela Setsoafia, Mr Eugene Jojo Arthur and Mr Godwin Festival Boateng. They are part of a group of 76 Masters from Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Nepal, who have studed in Denmark on a Danida Fellowship as part of the BSU programme.

On Friday 24th March, the Danish Embassy in Uganda hosted its first Danida Alumni Network meeting. It brought together Ugandans from many regions, government, private sector, academia and civil society. The idea is now to establish a local Danida Alumni Network to promote cooperation, networking and sharing of ideas among Ugandan professionals, who have studied in Denmark. Danida alumni, Seth Kwabena Amponsah, on 24th February 2017 won University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in the Sciences. This, he received, during the Annual Academic Awards Ceremony organized by the University. Dr. Amponsah’s PhD was sponsored by the Health Platform of Building Stronger Universities (BSU) in Developing Countries Initiative, a Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) funded collaboration between Danish Universities and University of Ghana.

Over 2000 alumni have benefitted from education from higher learning institutions in Denmark coordinated through the Danida Fellowship Centre, and around 373 Ghanaians are part of this network. On 28 January 2017, it was time for the alumni from the Danida Alumni Network (DAN)  in Ghana to get together for the first time to establish themselves as a formal network, to further strengthen the ties between Ghana and Denmark, and in unity contribute to the development of the two countries.

Danida Alumni Network portal is now open for Danida fellows who are pursuing or have completed short term qualifying courses. Since the 1960s about 18.000 from the global south have completed short term qualifying courses for professionals at Danish institutions.

Recruitment of the right talents while entering emerging markets is a challenge that many Danish companies share. Marie Gad from the Confederation of Danish Industry hopes that the Danish Alumni Network can help the companies to connect to the relevant local networks and talents.

Through this group the Alumni Network will try to reach out to all Vietnamese who have formerly or are currently studying in Denmark. The Denmark-Vietnam Alumni Network will launch small competitions to win tickets for Danish Film Weeks in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. It will also organize visits to Danish Companies in Vietnam, arrange presentations when Danish researchers and scholars are visiting Vietnam

There is a general call for more interdisciplinary collaboration between academia, business, government and civil society. Soeren Jeppesen, Associate Professor, Copenhagen Business School sees Danida Alumni as a strategic instrument in Denmark's cross-sector cooperation with the global South.

Danida Alumni Network is a unique global community of current and former Danida fellows, who have been granted a study stay in Denmark at Master's and PhD level, or have completed qualifying courses for professionals of higher and further education. The potential of a global network of this kind is extraordinary; for the individual alumni, for Danish institutes of higher and further education and for Danish diplomacy and business.

Over the years, Ghana and Denmark’s relationship and collaboration has taken different forms. The latest addition is Danida Ghana Alumni. It’s a renewed relationship between the two countries, writes Chairperson Enoch Yeboah Agyepong

Tove Degnbol, Danish Ambassador in Ghana supported the Danida Alumni Network right from the drawing board. The alumni are obvious ambassadors and facilitators in relations between Danes and our business and development cooperation partners, she says.
