Danida Fellowship Centre is pleased to announce the third round for Danida Alumni to apply for financial support to organize local activities in 2019. The deadline of the Call is 21 February 2019 at 12:00 PM (CEST) and applications are only accepted if submitted using the online application form below.

Africans can no longer rely on others to tell their stories and do their research. Africa needs science for Africa developed by Africans, said Dr Cheikh Mbow in his acceptance speech for the Danida Alumni Prize 2018

Dr. Cheikh Mbow, Executive Director of the Washington based organisation START International, is this year’s receiver of the Danida Alumni Prize. He was a Danida fellow from 1997 to 2000 at the University of Copenhagen where he did a PhD in remote sensing in forestry management.

Danida alumni, Harriet Asomani from Ghana and Angela Byangwa from Uganda were chosen to partake in the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) in Copenhagen. They were selected based on their applications following a call conducted by Danida Alumni Network earlier this year.

Danida has supported research capacity development projects for three decades. What difference has it made to the persons involved? A study looking into the broader perspectives of research capacity development at African universities and research institutions has been initiated by Danida Fellowship Centre.

When the 18th International Anti-Corruption Conference opens in Copenhagen 22-25 October Angela Byangwa, the Executive Director of Rwenzori Anti-Corruption Coalition in Uganda and Danida alumni will be one of the participants. She has been combatting corruption at a grass root level in Uganda for more than a decade.  

Last month, more than 40 Danida alumni and guests gathered in high spirits at the Danish Ambassador´s residence, a short drive from downtown Ouagadougou. Wearing a dress inspired by the Danish flag, the Ambassador, Ulla Næsby Tawiah, welcomed the guests to the launch of the Danida Burkina Alumni Network (DANE-BF).

Twenty years ago, in August 1997, I landed in Kastrup Airport in Copenhagen for my very first travel to Europe. I came to Denmark as a Danida fellow under the ENRECA (Enhancement of Research Capacity) program with a mind very concerned about how to manage the tension between a new Western Life and my African roots.

The second Call for Applications regarding the Alumni Activity Grant was announced earlier this year. We received 15 applications from seven different countries. Of the proposed activities eight projects were chosen to receive a grant of up to 9000DKK. These are as follows:

Anne Mette R. von Benzon, COWI Tanzania’s Director sees the Danida Alumni Network as a platform for mutual collaboration and benefit for the company and the alumni group. Her focus is on market development and the alumni as a resource and talent network. 

This year the prize will be awarded to an alum who, based on his or her Danida funded studies, has made important achievements contributing to positive change in his or her home country or area of employment using entrepreneurship and innovation as a tool of change.

On the 22nd of June under the late afternoon sun in his garden in Dar es Salaam Ambassador to Tanzania, Einar H. Jensen, officially launched the Danida Tanzania Alumni Network.

After a successful first round of alumni activity grants resulting in the support to seven different activities proposed by members of Danida Alumni Network, we are inviting applications under this second Call for Applications. The deadline of the Call is 20 August 2018 at 12:00 PM (CEST).
