Aalborg-trained Peter Okwoko, MSc receives the Danida Alumni Prize 2020
In 2020, the Danida Alumni Prize is awarded to an alum who, based on his or her Danida-funded studies, has contributed to positive change in their home country or area of employment as a result of an extraordinary contribution to combatting the Covid-19 epidemic.
The recipient of the Danida Alumni Prize of 2020 is Peter Okwoko, Danida Alum and MSc from Aalborg University for his quick, highly innovative and sustainable response to the Covid-19 crisis. Peter Okwoko serves a role model for other young community activists and social entrepreneurs
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit Uganda in March 2020, 30- years old Peter Okwoko acted promptly. Together with his business partner, Paige Balcom, PhD Berkley University he started to make face shields from plastic waste. So far, their social enterprise, Takataka Plastic, has produced and distributed 10,000 face shields to health facilities across the country.
Peter Okwoko’s Master’s in “Innovative Communication Technologies and Entrepreneurship” was funded by Danida under the Building Stronger Universities programme. He has amply demonstrated how he has applied the knowledge and skills he gained on the course at Aalborg University constructively. Peter Okwoko earned his MSc in 2017.
