On Friday 24th March, the Danish Embassy in Uganda hosted its first Danida Alumni Network meeting. It brought together Ugandans from many regions, government, private sector, academia and civil society. The idea is now to establish a local Danida Alumni Network to promote cooperation, networking and sharing of ideas among Ugandan professionals, who have studied in Denmark. Danida alumni, Seth Kwabena Amponsah, on 24th February 2017 won University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in the Sciences. This, he received, during the Annual Academic Awards Ceremony organized by the University.
Dr. Amponsah’s PhD was sponsored by the Health Platform of Building Stronger Universities (BSU) in Developing Countries Initiative, a Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) funded collaboration between Danish Universities and University of Ghana.
Over 2000 alumni have benefitted from education from higher learning institutions in Denmark coordinated through the Danida Fellowship Centre, and around 373 Ghanaians are part of this network. On 28 January 2017, it was time for the alumni from the Danida Alumni Network (DAN) in Ghana to get together for the first time to establish themselves as a formal network, to further strengthen the ties between Ghana and Denmark, and in unity contribute to the development of the two countries.
