At this year’s UNLEASH Innovation Lab closing ceremony, Nobel Prize winner and microcredit pioneer, Mohammed Yunus, cited the world’s pervasive economic inequality as the main global challenge of our time. He made a plea to the next generation to use new inclusive solutions to sort out what he said was “a ticking time bomb politically and socially”. Eight Danida alumni were amongst the 1000 young talents from 163 countries to take part in UNLEASH 2019.

Thirty Danida alumni convened in the Colombian capital Bogotá, marking the first official meeting of the Danida Alumni Network Colombia (DANCo). The event was opened by Denmark’s Ambassador Mogens Pedersen and has helped lay the foundation for a dynamic and engaged local alumni community.

The recipient of the Danida Alumni Prize 2019 is Associate Professor Dr Phan Thi Van, who earned her PhD in Epidemiology and Food Safety in Aquaculture from the University of Copenhagen in 2010 as a Danida Fellow. Dr Phan Thi Van is awarded the Danida Alumni Prize for her ambition, drive and tireless promotion of scientific research in the sustainable development of aquaculture, both within Vietnam and internationally.
