First alumni home coming event in Ghana

Over 2000 alumni have benefitted from education from higher learning institutions in Denmark coordinated through the Danida Fellowship Centre, and around 373 Ghanaians are part of this network. On 28 January 2017, it was time for the alumni from the Danida Alumni Network (DAN) in Ghana to get together for the first time to establish themselves as a formal network, to further strengthen the ties between Ghana and Denmark, and in unity contribute to the development of the two countries.
The home coming event was held at the residence of the Danish Ambassador in Ghana, Tove Degnbol, and entailed a presentation by the Danish Associate Professor Anette Skovsted Hansen (FFU) about the impact of alumni networks, a practical case of activities by a Danish company in the heath sector in Ghana (Novo Nordisk), a discussion of the vision and strategic objectives of the network, and much more.

About 30 Ghanaian alumni joined the event that lasted from early morning and ended with dinner and “hygge” in the evening. The alumni also had plenty of opportunity to mingle and discuss among each other and with the invited guests, including the Ambassador and Lasse Moller who is responsible for research cooperation in the Embassy.
Why join the network?
The main objectives of the network is to widen career options, establish new networks across countries, share competences and experiences, reunite with other alumni and add value to the experience in Denmark of the alumni – and a lot of Ghanaians have already joined.
Ghana is the country with the highest amount of members – this, along with Ambassador Tove Degnbol’s great enthusiasm with the alumni project, made Ghana the obvious choice for the Danida Fellowship Centre to try out this form of networking.

It is still possible to join the Danida Alumni Network in Ghana. The network is for current and former Danida fellows, who have pursued Master's or PhD degrees, or completed qualifying courses for professionals at Danish institutions of higher and further education. You can register here
