Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) in Ghana

Emmanuel K. Sanwouk, Ghana, Master of International Health 2012, University of Copenhagen. Now WHO Consultant for EPI / RI in EMERGENCIES Rep. of South Sudan and District Director of Health Service at Ghana Health Service.

I am happy to present to you a short film in the below link. This film is one of my works after successful completion of my MIH course in Denmark. As one of the cherished institutions which contributed immensely to my academic achievements, I wish to share with you this short film to be used by DFC on your social media.

My studies in DK on NCDs empowered me to realize the enormity of the problem of NCDs so I started a taskforce of health workers responsible for screening the population in my region for NCDs risk factors and providing counselling. The Taskforce has screened thousands of people over the years and has helped people identify which conditions they are at risk of. This has saved a lot of people from sudden deaths due to NCDs. We also managed to advocate for a clinic solely for NCDs clients at the Hosp.

Noncommunicable diseases once considered diseases of affluence, today, NCDs including cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease and mental and neurological disorders – are the leading causes of death and disability among women in developing and developed countries alike.
